A Kolhapur water supply cut warning has put 11 gram panchayats adjoining the city under pressure to clear overdue water charges. Municipal commissioner Dr Rajendra Bharud has warned that supplies could be disconnected if the panchayats fail to pay 50% of their outstanding principal by 31 October 2026, according to reports in Sakal, Pudhari and The Times of India.

The important distinction for residents is that 31 October is a payment deadline, not a confirmed date for a scheduled shutdown. The reports describe action conditional on non-payment; they do not give a village-wise disconnection timetable or restoration time.

Kolhapur water supply cut warning: the payment deadline

Sakal’s report, updated on 17 October 2026, says 11 neighbouring gram panchayats have been warned to pay half of the outstanding principal by the end of October. The remaining principal is to be cleared in two instalments: 25% by December-end and the final 25% by March-end.

Pudhari’s report, published on 16 October 2026, gives the same payment conditions and attributes the warning to Bharud during a review of water-dues recovery.

  • By 31 October 2026: Pay 50% of the outstanding principal.
  • By December-end: Pay a further 25% of the principal.
  • By March-end: Pay the remaining 25% of the principal.

This schedule concerns the principal amount, not half of the combined bill including late-payment charges.

How much do the gram panchayats owe?

Pudhari reports total outstanding water dues of ₹8,80,63,411, comprising ₹2,21,91,256 in principal and ₹6,58,72,155 in late-payment charges. That puts the combined arrears at approximately ₹8.81 crore.

According to the reports, the arrears have remained pending for around 15 years. The commissioner said payments had largely been adjusted against late-payment charges, leaving the original principal outstanding.

The Times of India’s 16 October report says a special recovery drive is due to begin on 1 November. It also reports that a proposal for concessions on late-payment surcharges would be placed before the general body. That is a proposed consideration, not confirmation that penalties have been waived.

Which gram panchayats are named?

Sakal identifies the number involved as 11. Pudhari names the following six gram panchayats while describing their arrears:

  • Gandhinagar
  • Hanmantwadi
  • Shinganapur
  • Kalamba
  • Valivade
  • Gadmudshingi

These six names are not a complete list of all 11 gram panchayats covered by the warning. Pudhari reports that Gandhinagar has the largest outstanding amount among the panchayats it names.

Residents should check their own gram panchayat’s latest notice rather than assume that every nearby village faces the same action or supply arrangements.

This is separate from the city’s 10% water reduction

The arrears warning should not be confused with the separate reduction in water supply reported for Kolhapur city. The Times of India says a 10% reduction came into effect from 16 October, with the municipal corporation reducing daily water lifting from 200 million litres to 180 million litres following a state water resources department directive.

The two developments have different triggers. One concerns water-use restrictions; the other is a conditional disconnection warning linked to gram panchayats’ unpaid bills. Neither establishes that every household will lose supply on 31 October.

What should residents check now?

For households, the useful next step is to ask the local gram panchayat about its payment position and any fresh notice from the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation. A payment or subsequent instruction could affect whether the threatened action goes ahead.

  • Check whether your gram panchayat is covered by the warning.
  • Ask whether the required principal payment has been made or arranged.
  • Look for a specific local notice before relying on a forwarded shutdown message.
  • If an interruption is announced, check its timing and any alternative supply arrangements directly with the local authority.

Has a Kolhapur water supply cut time been announced?

The cited reports do not provide a confirmed disconnection time, outage duration or restoration schedule for the 11 gram panchayats. They also do not establish whether individual panchayats have since paid the required amount.

As of this article’s research on 20 October 2026, the Kolhapur water supply cut warning remains tied to the 31 October payment deadline—not an unconditional announcement that water will be cut on that date.
